"Okay, so I'll pick you up at 10:30 but not later than that."
"Uhh, okay, if you need to pick me up before then, I have my phone, you can just call." I told him. I hoped he wouldn't call though. "Um, dad, I'm scared to go in there alone."
Then Iris walked out. Oh thank God I thought. "Okay, bye Dad, love you."
"Dude, like all the red heads are here first." Iris said, hugging me.
"Hey! Happy Birthday, I love your shirt." It was red, and loose showing just the right amount of her stomach. She looked beautiful and I was so jealous. There I stood in ugly jeans and an American Red Cross t-shirt. Of course, I can't lie, I didn't look bad. I took hours to do my hair and makeup. I handed Iris a little blue box that took me 20 minutes to wrap. I hoped she would like her gift, I was a little scared she'd hate it.
We walked inside. I was introduced to Iris' parents, then Kris and Josh, who I already knew. We stood around and Iris handed me an energy drink with a Joker on it. Mom had told me specifically not to drink energy drinks at the party though. I just held onto it. We walked into a room and started playing games on Nintendo 64.
Then everyone started to arrive. I continued to play and watch others play Nintendo 64. People came and played and then left, but Josh and I stayed there the whole time. We just made small talk. And I sucked at Mario Cart and Mario Super Smash Brothers and hoped my hair was not getting really frizzy, but I had already started to feel the disadvantages of using lots of Aussie.
Pizza came and disappeared just as quickly. Presents were opened(and Iris really loved my present---2 red bracelets). A certain song was sung and cake was cut, but I didn't eat any. Along with lots of gift cards, Iris received "The House on Haunted Hill." Not only do I hate watching movies at parties, I hate scary movies. So I just stood near the doorway by Josh, and I said, "I really hate watching movies." "Why?" "I don't know, I just really hate sitting and watching movies." "Well you could stand and watch it." "True..." "Or...We could go play Mario Kart again." "Let's do it." Self consciously, I realized I used Emmy's "do it" voice.
So we sat down on the floor and grabbed 2 controllers and I was really excited that we'd just be getting some one on one time, and I don't know why. But then Miles came, and that was fine, and then Thomas came... And Josh saved me from him. And then when we were done playing lots more Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers, we watched this guy named Keaton play some Kirby game trying to decide what Kirby actually was.
"He's a walking balloon." Josh decided.
"Um, no he's a fish with legs."
"He doesn't have a tail."
"And actually they're not legs, they're feet. So he's a fish with no tail and feet."
"You've just described everyone in this room."
And it was just greatness. And then we swapped numbers and went to play Guitar Hero. Which I sucked at so Josh, of course, helped me.
And then I left.
And now I have a new friend.
And strangely, I want him to be more than just a friend.

- Oh deary. About me sections are always my least favorite. My name is Laura, I like typing, singing off key, belittling myself, watching movies, hanging out with friends, and lots of other normal teenager things.
